Vermouth

Glossary of Terms

Vermouth is a type of fortified wine often flavoured with various herbs, roots, berries, flowers and seeds. It takes its name from the German word Wermut for wormwood, which is an ingredient of the drink. There are several different styles of vermouth, ranging from dry to sweet. Vermouth can be consumed as an aperitif, as a long drink or in a cocktail, the most famous being the martini cocktail.
